Tranexamic acid adalah obat antifibrinolitik yang bekerja melalui mekanisme: menghambat aktivitas dari aktivator plasminogen dan plasmin. Aktivitas hemostatis tranexamic acid bekerja mencegah degradasi fibrin, pemecahan platelet, kerapuhan vaskular, dan pemecahan faktor koagulasi. Efek ini dibuktikan secara klinis dengan berkurangnya jumlah perdarahan, mengurangi waktu perdarahan dan periode perdarahan.1
