Capecitabine is a non-cytotoxic fluoropyrimidine carbamate, which functions as an orally administered precursor of cytotoxic 5-FU. 5-FU blocks the methylation reaction deoxyuridylic acid to thymidylic acid, thereby interfering with the synthesis of DNA.
